about

The next step in the Nomadic musical journey

On 05.05.05, The Nomad, aka Daimon Schwalger, will release his fifth full-length album, ‘Quinessence’, a landmark achievement in the ongoing nomadic music journey.

The new album found its inspiration in Europe during The Nomad’s most recent tour in December 2004.

Stimulated by his experience Daimon set about completing his most exciting musical project to date. The end result is Quinessence, a fusion of his trademark hip hop/dub/reggae/electronica sound alongside some distinctly international flavours.

Quinessence is an excellent example of the growing quality of New Zealand music production and innovation.

“New Zealand’s music scene has really taken off and some really unique and special sounds have come out of it. It’s going to be real pleasure for me to take some of that sound to the rest of the world,” he says of the new album.

“Quinessence is the product of many years of tinkering and tweaking beats in the studio. A recent injection of inspiration really put the soul inside the music.”

The Nomad has collaborated with an array of local talent, handpicked to compliment each track.

“I worked with some really talented homegrown musicians on this album as well as mixing in the distinctive beats and accents of several international artists,” he says.

Singers and players featured on the album include British-born vocalist Pepsi of Wham fame, Tehi Mana [check spelling of name] (Fat Freddy’s Drop), Imon Star (Rhombus, Olmecha Supreme), Rio (Trinity Roots, Scribes of Ra), MC Kyla (GND), Hamocane from Samoa, and O.G., to name a few.

The Nomad also introduces two new players of the highest Fresh Produce extraction, Ms Vanessa Stacey and MC Ras-Stone, who hails from West Africa.

The Nomad has been consistently producing and performing electronic music since 1996. His past works include ‘Movement’, ‘Second Selection’, ‘Level 3’ and ‘Step 4th’; and a six track EP.
