about

Movement is always forwards in time and a unique gathering of the past to become the now the present, to become the seed of infinite possible futures.

And so the journey begins, traversing over barren soundscapes, looping though dark peaks, to be then washed up on golden shores underneath a warm Pacific sun.

The Nomad has arrived at a resting place, only long enough to expel the demons he's been carrying for the past year. To give birth to his debut CD titled ' Movement', featuring 8 solid bassline tracks and one left field remix. Movement' displays a broad variety of subtronic music based on old skool breaks both past and future. Progressing from a big beat live feel to hard out dark drum & bass through to more mellow and sensitive tunes.

With his musical roots stretching back to the early dawn of hip hop in Aotearoa, he learnt the beat trade Djing in dingy clubs, teaching himself to scratch and programme a rudimentary drum machine. The love of music and phat beats has never dwindled, only getting stronger over time.

Finding himself in Christchurch in early 1996, he formed 'Locr.ty' a live dance trio, fronted by Pearl Runga. Started recording material which was released on various compilations, received wide airplay on Student Radio Network and toured with David Harrow and Salmonella Dub. 'Loc:' was finally put to rest at the beginning of '97, from which The Nomad was spawned.

Frustrated at the inactivity and lack of respect for DJs and subtronic music, he started promoting his own gigs, designing fliers and setting up tours. Since late 96 - 97 he's been responsible for numerous legendary gigs in Christchurch, Wellington and Dunedin. Including 'Conscious Sounds', Thursday nights @ the Licker Lounge, 'Electric Boogie Tour' and new years jam 'NightTrain'.

All the material was recorded and mixed down in his home studio, with the help of Tiki, sound engineer for Salmonella Dub. Another Dubster, bass player Mark, lays down a few fiendish rhythms bending basscones into overdrive. This home-grown ethic runs deep, with his attitude toward drawing on his many musical influences and collaborating with other like-minded musicians. To create something local and unique.

Title track Movement' is the most radio friendly track, smooth and mature. 'Another Level' features the powerful vocal talents of Pearl Runga. The opening track 'Coming Hardcore' highlighting the rawness of The Antsman, from Christchurch's premiere hip hop crew 'Beats & Pieces'. While 'Urban Brothers' leaps out and rocks along with the help of plenty of scratching. Movement' ends with a remix by Nyquist, another Christchurch based subtronic technician.

The future for The Nomad consists of gathering momentum and following the movement to the next destination. Which no doubt will be as exciting and fresh as his debut offering. GET DOWN WITH MOVEMENT
